Yolanda is an award-winning international business executive – Stevie Award® winner – with a stellar career in two top-ranked corporate advisory and venture capital firms in Europe, Spain, and Latin America, as well as in listed companies in high added value sectors.

By having developed business models and partnerships for multiple ventures, she applies lean and change management methodologies to her work, delivering operational excellence, stakeholder alignment, and maximizing impact. She benefits from a broad network in Europe.

Based in Zug, at the epicenter of the biotechnology industry in Switzerland, Yolanda connects the dots between Europe, with a particular focus in Switzerland, and the Massachusetts life science ecosystem. She speaks English, German, Spanish, and French.

Background

Joined as a Business Development & Project Manager to led fundraising and educational programs, public affairs, and thought-leadership in Europe and the US. Supported the CEO & Co-founder on a pro-bono basis since 2017 to provide advice on strategic healthcare initiatives (venture philanthropy).

She is a strategic business manager with an international MBA from top-rated ESADE business & law school and 15+ years of experience delivering results for companies in multiple industries and geographies. Yolanda provides leadership in project management and strategic business development initiatives. She directs innovation development, venture partnering, public affairs, educational programs, and events for public and private clients in Europe and the US in collaboration with industry-leading healthcare organizations and institutional partners to accelerate innovation for patients with unmet needs. Summary of Accomplishments

Public Affairs & Advocacy

Yolanda started her career at DLA Piper, EU Competition Department, where she partnered with the co-Head of the Regulatory Affairs & EU Competition, to execute the strategic marketing plan to reposition the practice as a rising star in Europe. Her contribution to the EU Competition practice proved instrumental in landing two highly publicized international cartel cases. She supported the Firm in publishing the first EU competition code that became a blueprint for the European practice, and was appointed Assistant Coordinator of the Secretary of European Association of Competition Law in Spain (AEDC). Afterward, Yolanda moved to ECIJA as a Head of Marketing & Corporate Communications, achieving rising star status as the most innovative corporate law firm in Europe. She partnered with the CEO & Founder to support the strategic business development plan’s execution to promote the Firm and gain market share; acted as the firm’s spokesperson for press outlets and institutions. Yolanda designed and managed public relations and the public affairs plan, including establishing a press office, recruiting practice experts and key opinion leaders, and defining media relations policies and procedures. She developed and executed public affairs campaigns and hosted events to influence digital fiscal policy and privacy regulations, such as the Google tax or EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Besides, she directed efforts to expand a high-profile client base, winning clients such as Aon, BBVA Project Finance, and Iberdrola, by representing firm at British and American Chambers of Commerce. Yolanda was recognized as Marketing Executive of the Year, Bronze Stevie® Awards Winner, for her contribution to ECIJA’s corporate development and public affairs strategy, significantly expanding the Firm’s growth and reputation.

 

Industry & Entrepreneurship

Within ECIJA, Yolanda supported the development of the Venture Capital department and business launch. She partnered with the VC Firm CEO to drive fundraising, investment, and business development activities while supporting partnership strategy and go-to-market operations. She helped launch new ventures in Spain and Latin America while helping forge partnerships to drive the success of divestment and future profitability. In 2015, Yolanda was appointed Project Manager for the CEO and Strategic Marketing & Corporate Communications Manager of Schweiter Technologies (SWTQ), a Swiss-listed supplier to the aerospace, automotive, renewable, and sports industry, and moved to Switzerland. Yolanda professionalized the divisional financial reporting function in collaboration with the CEO/CFO. At the same time, she repositioned the company to reach and engage target markets worldwide, and expanded brand recognition, receiving the United Nations Global Compact Award in 2017. She developed and implemented the company communications and public affairs strategy, including launching campaigns to link former employee values to a new, global corporate identity and integrated sustainability reporting for the first time in the company history. After company acquisitions, she addressed concerns and facilitated integration, increasing retention of acquired company employees, ending voluntary terminations after mergers. Since 2017, Yolanda started to support Robert Schultz, her mentor at her entrepreneurship program in Massachusetts, within her international MBA at ESADE business school, in patient advocacy projects. In 2020, Massnex was born under Robert Schultz’s leadership; as European Market Director, Yolanda executes strategic business development projects for life-science development, including digital health, med-tech, and biotech. She developed global collaborations with Schultz between the Swiss pharmaceutical industry, Swissnex, and MassBio (Massachusetts Biotechnology Council) to foster innovation for patients with unmet needs.

Academia

Yolanda was a lecturer at the Marketing & Communications Course for the LLM Program at IEDE Business School, European University of Madrid. Within Massnex, Yolanda coordinates events, innovation plans, and educational programs on life-science economic development for public and private institutions in Europe and developed partnerships with investor communities. She handles medical affairs, promoting their mission to collaborate with medical professions and experts who serve as patient advocates. Besides, she supports business development projects and executes business plans for novel therapeutics that arise from public-private partnerships. Leading initial fundraising initiatives to cover assay optimisation and scale-up, screening, lead optimisation, and patenting, connecting the industry, government, and academia innovation programs.

Journalism

Yolanda has over 15+ years of experience in journalism and public relations. At DLA Piper, she supported the Firm in publishing countless communication material to place the EU Competition place in the spotlight. She strengthened media relations and expanded presence for ECIJA, a top 10 corporate advisory firm in Spain and Latin America-ranked by FT, securing regular publications in top-tier journals (FT, WSJ, Forbes, Gulf News, etc.) and collaborating with well-known national and international media channels. For 3A Composites, Yolanda led the external and internal communications strategy and improved interaction amongst employees worldwide to exchange learning experiences and share ideas/projects through storytelling campaigns. She transformed a dispersed and ambiguous corporate identity into a coherent, unified corporate message, reflecting a shared vision. Led worldwide rebranding roll-out and set corporate branding standards/guidelines, devising company-wide workshops to mitigate employee reticence and strengthen engagement, commitment, and identification. 

Economic Development

Yolanda worked for Karl Storz Endoscope, a German medical device multinational company, providing strategic management support to Iberia’s CEO while assisting in preparing annual plans. She planned and executed business development and marketing plans and coordinated all related activities. Yolanda supported the medical congresses’ organisation and organised program content for multiple medical specialties. Yolanda was a representative of the British and American Chambers of Commerce committees in Spain, where she supported corporate taxation and privacy regulation policies. Besides, she supported several institutions’ foundation, among them ISMS-Forum Spain, to raise awareness on corporate compliance and privacy and set them up for independent growth.
